The
Sand and

the Sea

Israel has a mere 190-kilometer slice of
Mediterranean shoreline. Yet what it lacks
in quantity, it makes up in variety. Here is a
selection of some of Israel’s inest beaches.

Ruchie Avital

I beaches relect the amazing
srael’s
convergence of cultures, civilizations and
natural wonders that make this country
unique. Even its sand is a meeting place
of nations: on the beaches in the south, near
Ashkelon, its ine grains, bufeted by waves coming
all the way from the Nile Delta and Libya, are
perfect to lay a blanket on. In the north, the beach
is rougher; its sand contains a major dose of rocks
ground only roughly as they tumbled westward
through mountain streams to rocky inlets to create
romantic and picturesque beach coves.
