The Jesus Trail is a new, exciting
and fulfilling way to experience Israel,
through the fellowship and inspiration of
“the walk.” Walking the Holy Land is a
tradition that begins in Genesis when God
told Abraham “Go, walk through the length
and breadth of the land, for I am giving it
to you” (Genesis 13:17). In Deuteronomy
6:5–7, God told us to use our time “walking
along the road” to talk about God’s
commandments and for the disciples, and
in Luke 24:17, walking was described as
a special time for fellowship. In antiquity,
getting from place to place usually meant
walking, and so the journey itself became
important. So significant was “the walk”
to our biblical ancestors that, like water,
shepherds and their flocks and other
elements connected to the land, walking
gave us a symbol that’s still with us today
– the “spiritual walk.” As the prophet Micah
put it, “He will teach us of his ways, and
we will walk in his paths” (Mica 4:2), while
Jesus said: “Walk while you have the
light…” (John 12:35).
The Jesus Trail is the brainchild of two
energetic and committed young men: Maoz
Inon, a Jewish Israeli who owns one of
Nazareth’s most interesting places to lodge,
the Fauzi Azar Inn; and David Landis, an
American Christian who, with Anna
Dintaman, has published a book about the
trail. Walking the Jesus Trail is an
unforgettable opportunity to walk the land.
